Weekend Thrifting

Even with the holiday weekend, there were a few estate sales and tons of garage sales. This is what came home with me.

1963 children's book The Pied Piper. It has great graphics, I love the old illustrations, and it was only a quarter!

Great little silver creamer. It sits on the window sill by the kitchen sink and holds a sprig of fresh herbs from the garden - such as mint.

Interesting mini pastry server.

A group of clowns - 3 pewter, 2 ceramic. The whole lot was $0.15. A friend of mine collects clowns (why, you might ask? I have no idea - they creep me out!)

And a very old picture frame with an even older picture inside.

Garden Report

We have had nice weather lately, so all of the plants are coming along nicely. This little stand is full of herb plants.

Basil needs to be cut already.

The lilacs in the backyard are much taller than I am.
You can smell them from inside the house.

A little birdhouse sits at the edge of the woods, hopefully a little bird will move in.

Lettuce and cilantro.

A bunny guarding the Peonies. They are just about to bloom.

An owl sits in front of the tomatoes. Hopefully he will scare off anyone who tires to eat them. It will be a while yet.

A Green Man/Satyr door knocker.

Too big and heavy to hang on the door, so he watches over the front yard.

Estate Finds

I found some cool things at an estate sale this past weekend.
This is a really old photo album.
The front cover is celluloid and has a spooky full moon nighttime scene. The back is velvet.
The hardware is very ornate and the clasp still works perfectly.
And it's filled with great old Victorian era pictures.

Also found a variety of floral frogs.

And a cute little chippy red trinket box, with interesting scenes on the sides and lid.
I can't quite make out what the scenes are, but I think children are playing.

This is another mystery find. There are four of these iron pieces, each one has a travel scene, London, Paris, NY and San Francisco.
They are about an inch high, and have a shallow bowl area. I thought maybe they could hold taper candles, lipstick or toothpicks, but none of those seems quite right. Any ideas??

Very Old Finds

I stopped by several estate sales, garage sales, and even a flea market this past weekend. I came back with some very old finds.
This is an old Christian Songbook.
It is from 1893.

A cameo scarf clip. It has the hinged ring back that would clip onto a scarf or dress.

A pair of binoculars from the late 1800's. They came with their leather case. They are very shabby, falling apart. I got them more for decor than for use. They would look great sitting on a bookcase.
They are made by Lemaire Fabi, Paris.

A stack of cute children's books.

And a little wooden box. It says My Diary on the front, and Ladysmith Wis on the side.

Shop Updates

These are a few things I've added to my shop. Above are a pair of petite sugar tongs.

Silver squirrel salt and pepper shakers. They are sitting on a little tree stump base.

1933 Chicago souvenir crumber. Used at fancy dinner parties to sweep away crumbs or ashes.

Retro yellow handled cake breaker. (These actually work really well! Those 1950's housewives knew what they were doing).

Swedish demitasse spoon.

Sterling Sugar Spoon.

White Wednesday Vase

I found this great pitcher at Goodwill, and filled it with flowers to give to my mom for Mother's Day.
It shows scenes from the Robert Burns poem Tam O'Shanter.
My mom already has a smaller vase showing different scenes from the poem - so I knew she would like it (she did).
I was very surprised to find it at Goodwill!

Silver Sunday Recent Silver Finds

Silver Sunday again - my favorite! These are silver items I have acquired since last Silver Sunday.
First up is this tiny little box with tiny little tongs. I think it is a pill box, but not sure.
I'm also not sure who this little figure is supposed to be.
There is a slot for the tongs behind the little figure, and a little box with a lid.
I put a quarter in the tongs so you can see how small it is.

This is one of my favorite finds...I love silver that has a gothic feel to it.
This is a shot glass from Reed & Barton.
It has double devil-ish faces as the base.

Little one handled serving dish. In the center is an etched swan scene.

A peacock expandable trivet!
I love finding unexpected and unusual peacock items. I found this at an estate sale.

And last is this beautiful monogrammed ladle. It is Wildwood, 1908, pattern by Reliance Plate. I love this pattern.
