Emma and Thomas

A while back, at an estate sale, I saw a pair of great napkin rings, engraved with the names Emma and Thomas.

They were a bit expensive, and even though I hated to break up the set, I just bought Emma.

I found this great piece at the same sale. It was very tarnished and dirty, almost black - and it had an unreadable monogram.

When I cleaned it up, I realized that the monogram was E & T, Emma and Thomas!

And on the back was '98 - as in 1898. It must have been a wedding gift.

I went back to the sale, and luckily Thomas was still there.

Along with a couple of other pieces I missed.

They all had the E & T, and '98 engravings.

This is the full set - I'm so glad I was able to keep it together!

And by some strange coincidence, this past weekend I found another monogrammed napkin ring with the name Thomas.
And on the flip side is the year 1897!

I am having a giveaway, which includes some vintage silver pieces. Click HERE to enter and for more info.

Favorite Vintage Find

This is one of my favorite recent vintage finds. It is an old, heavy letter opener. I think it is brass.
It has a face in the design - kind of Art Nouveau.

And I'm having a giveaway....
Some mismatched vintage flatware.

Thrifty Treasures and a Giveaway!

This weekend I stopped at a bunch of garage sales, and a few estate sales. This is what I came back with.
Great little Hotel de Paris bucket. Perfect for holding an herb plant.

Blue and white English butter pat, and a small gold mirror with really beautiful detailing.

Little rustic scoop - perfect for ice!

Wood box with gothic looking nails - another great vessel for an herb plant. This was only $0.10!!!

A bunch of books, these were $0.25 - $0.50 each. An anthology of Children's Literature, a book on Calligraphy (to help decipher some of my monogrammed flatware) and some children's books.
A few more children's books - historical themes. Very cool graphics.

I'm having a giveaway....

Giveaway - Mismatched Place Setting Flatware

Welcome to the Lazy Peacock giveaway! If you have read my blog, you know how much I love silver serving pieces, especially flatware.
I am giving away one place setting of mismatched flatware.
They are all silverplate.
Includes:
1 salad or dessert fork - Birds of Paradise 1923 by Community;
1 dinner fork - Jewell 1916 by Arion;
1 knife - pattern unknown by WM Rogers, Wallington CT.;
1 soup spoon - Queen Bess 1946 by Oneida Tudor Plate;
1 teaspoon - Duchess 1923 by Oneida Tudor Plate
This is a closeup of the knife handle. It has a monogram on it, could be several different letters, depending which way you look at it, you can decide what it is. (Doesn't have to be your monogram to enjoy it!)
Closeup of salad fork Birds of Paradise pattern. I think the birds look like peacocks!

If shiny and new is your thing, this giveaway probably isn't for you. This flatware is all in vintage condition. Very usable, but well worn.
Leave a comment to enter the giveaway. If you are a follower, or become a follower, you get an extra entry.
The winner will be selected randomly on Monday 5/10/10.
