White Flowers and Planter

This is currently my favorite planter. It has 4 faces.
It has cracks and crazing all over - makes it look very old even though it is new.

White tall phlox have begun to bloom.

Estate Sale Finds

Went to a few estate sales again this weekend. This is what I found...
Brass peacock findings. I'm not sure what they are, they may have been attached to furniture, but each one is two kissing peacocks. So cute.
I will try to work them into some furniture re-do.

Little Miss Muffet baby fork and spoon. This will be added to my collection of nursery rhyme silver. They are very worn but still adorable.

A water pitcher that has a forest scene with a little girl and boy. Perfect for holding flowers.

A girls head and a great 1960's cookbook - The French-Kosher Cookbook. I love the cover and it has cute sketches throughout that feature a girl, a dog and Paris.

Outdoor Wednesday Backyard

Morning spiderweb - this one is really big!

Pretty balloon flower.

I'm trying several kinds of tomatoes this year. These are the green zebra heirlooms.

Cherry tomatoes - there are tons of these!

And purple russian heirloom.

This cute deer was roaming around last night, luckily I don't think they like tomatoes, however they have definitely been eating flowers, along with a family of bunnies and who knows what other creatures!

Weekend Thrifting

Here are a few things I found this past weekend...
A stack of white with gold rim butter pats. Love these. I like to use them to serve individual hors d'oeuvres. I used similar plates for a dessert buffet last Christmas.

Found some of my very favorite things, trophy cups and flatware. One cup is engraved Irish Open, and the other is a trophy from 1971.

Pretty little dust pan/crumber. These make great serving pieces too, they are easy to slide a large, messy portion on and off.

Cute little whale ashtray.

More Garden Shots

These are some more shots of the backyard. This cute and chippy Dumbo the Elephant is actually a birdhouse.
The little hole is for the birds to enter, and the butt lifts up so you can clean it out when the birds have moved out.
It hangs off the back porch.

Dumbo overlooks this little girl wood cutout. I found her at a yard sale for $1! She stands on the edge of the backyard.
A couple of my wine boxes. The one in front holds lettuce, it is doing quite well. The one is back is smaller and holds herbs.

Weekend Thrifting Finds

Another successful weekend of thrifting. I hit up a couple of garage sales and a few estate sales.
I found this milk glass box and a set of pretty demitasse spoons.

Love this cat shaped napkin or letter holder.
An old tackle box is behind the cat. It's a great color, kind of pink/gray. It is in very good shape, a little of rust on the latch but the inside is perfect.

Creamer and sugar set. Can never have too many of these.

More milk glass - this is a top hat planter by Westmoreland.

A Norman Rockwell book and a Collecting guide for Pottery and Porcelain - only $0.50 each!

The collecting guide came in handy to identify these pretty floral plates with gold rim.
They had these marks on the back, and my book says they are German by KPM, and are quite old. Still unable to identify what the numbers mean. I'm sure it is the pattern but I can't quite read it properly.

Here is the tackle box (only paid $1) as my new upholstery tool box. Works very well - I was using a bag and the sharp tools would poke holes through it.

Nursery Rhyme Silver Collection

This is my collection of children's silver pieces. Nursery rhyme themed are my very favorite.
I love that many nursery rhymes stem from historical or political events. Some were originally very sinister.
This sterling spoon and fork has a slightly devious looking cat, eating with a spoon and reads: Kitty Cat at Breakfast.
I have no idea what this means, I assume it is some nursery rhyme, or story - if anyone knows, please do tell!

The Three Little Pigs. The pigs are all playing instruments.

Spoon from the rhyme There Was an Old Woman Tossed up in A Basket. Part of the rhyme reads: Old Woman Whither So High? To Sweep the Cobwebs From the Sky.

Little Boy Blue Spoon.

Goosey Goosey Gander Spoon.

This is a Humpty Dumpty egg cup.

Little Bo Peep mug.

This one is hard to read, but it is also Little Bo Peep. It is a tin plate.

Little rabbit napkin ring. I'm not sure if this is from a nursery rhyme. Could be just a cute bunny - maybe Bunny Foo Foo?

And a Humpty Dumpty baby cup.

If you are interested in the history of a specific nursery rhyme, this is a pretty good website that tries to sort out their origins.
