Weekend Finds

Lots of good sales this week!
A couple of old books for $1 each, including an English to French Dictionary, and an art deco tin.
I just liked the cover of this one.

Halloween is really just around the corner, so I was happy to find a few Halloween related items.
A black cat figure, some pumpkin salt and pepper shakers, and 1960's Halloween book with great graphics.
A couple of funny banks - devil bank that reads, Saving Up To Raise Some Hell!
And a bowling pin bank that reads Pin-Money Bank.

Ceramic Swan with an open back - maybe for salt? A cute little white and gold porcelain scoop,
Grape salt and pepper shakers with a silver base.
And a cute little bird dish. I think it is a cigar rest, but I thought it would be perfect to hold business cards.

Summer Tomatoes

There is nothing better than tomatoes picked right off the vine.
I picked all of these today.
This is a Purple Russian and a Green Zebra.

Vintage Things

These are some vintage things things that I have acquired through my thrifting and antique expeditions.

This is a bridal basket from the late 1800's. It has birds etched on the plate area and the rim. It is in lovely condition for being so old.

Very old Luxor candy tin with a pretty Art Nouveau design. Some of the picture has worn off.

A handful of silver, including some teapot topped demitasse spoons.

This sterling ashtray could have been straight from the set of Mad Men.
It is an engraved award from 1968. I seriously doubt any companies today would give out ashtrays as awards.
I don't think this one was ever used - at least not as an ashtray. It will make a great little trinket dish.

And a cute little brass dog.

Tomatoes and Mr. Bunny

The tomatoes are doing great this year.
There are tons of these little cherry tomatoes.
A handful can be picked almost every day.

This is a green zebra. This one is just about ready to pick - when the lighter stripes start to turn slightly yellow.

Purple Russian tomato. These are ready to pick when they begin to turn a pinkish/purple color. They are delicious.

And this little guy shows up every day to eat. He was laying down for these photos - it was a very hot day.
We call him Mr. Bunny (though it is quite possible it should be Mrs. Bunny as baby bunnies have been seen).

Silver Sunday Monogram Flatware

Silver Sunday again!
It is probably fairly obvious that I love silver serving pieces.
Especially monogrammed silver serving pieces.

I found this set of flatware with an SM monogram at an estate sale.
It happens to be my mom's initials.

Due to some unfortunate circumstances, we have no family silver heirlooms, so this is kind of an instant heirloom.
There are dinner knives,
forks, teaspoons (sitting in buffet flatware caddies).
Large serving spoons, soup spoons, a ladle and a sugar spoon.
I have many mismatched monogram pieces, but this is my first matching set. I love it.

This is another interesting silver piece - it is a glass bowl frog that sits inside the silver piece.

I will be filling it up with garden flowers.

Weekend Finds...

More estate sales and garage sales this past weekend. Here is what I brought home...
1934 Cigar box with cool horse graphics.

A handful of postcards. They date from 1903 - 1919. I love reading the old notes.

Closeup of the bird postcard.

This is a really unusual cake shovel. It has a pretty design on the blade, I think the handle is Bakelite and Lucite.

A ferris wheel earring holder. The crossbars on wheel all have holes in them to hang earrings from. I've never seen anything like it before.
Behind that is a great old frame - I like the photo, but I have an old family photo to put in it.

A German weather house. It has a thermometer on it, and it can tell you if it is going to rain.
The man, with his umbrella, comes out for rain, and the women comes out on clear days. As you can see, there was rain the day I took this picture. It works.

I think this is my favorite find from the weekend. It is a collapsible aluminum cup.
It has a cameo on the lid.
