Vintage Christmas

I found these old Christmas postcards this past weekend at an estate sale. They are very sweet.
They are all from early 1900's. The above postmark is 1913.

Postcards and Napkin Rings

This week I hit up the usual thrift, antiques and one estate sale. At the estate sale I found a pile of old postcards.
The above is my favorite, "Opportunity makes the villian." This one is a bit damaged, but that doesn't bother me. The rest are in very good shape.
The are all early 1900's. The newest from the bunch is postmarked 1915.
These were all unusual and cute, I've never seen these characters before.
I also found these great napkin rings. I love old napkin rings, monogrammed are my favorite.
These all say Madame or Monsieur, and are all a bit different.

White Wednesday Snow

It's a blizzard! Above picture taken last night.
This is this morning. Around 4". And it's still snowing.
It is pretty, but driving conditions are not good.
Now the cold is coming...:(

Vintage Christmas

Vintage Santa and Mrs. Claus, probably made sometime in the 40's. An old iron sled sits behind them on top of some Christmas books. I found these in some thrift and antique stores.
Vintage glass candy in a cut glass candy dish. Behind it is an old photo of a young girl (with a cute 40's hair style!) on santa's lap. The candy came from an estate sale.
These winking Santa mugs were part of my haul from this past weekend at an amazing estate sale. The little cranberry glass spooner will be perfect to sit out during the holidays.

Mirror Mirror

I went to a fascinating estate this this weekend. The house was PACKED with stuff. It was unbelievable. These mirrors were part of my haul. They range in size from about 3" to 12", most of these are quite old. I have a plan for them!!
I also got a few Halloween items.
And a few more. Some of the these are newer (last 10 years or so) and some are quite old.
This is a pressed glass pheasant dish. Perfect for candy.
Really pretty glass candle holder.
Large coffee table book on champagne.
It has some great pictures.
This is a beautiful vintage serving scoop, made of shell. Perfect for serving ice at a dinner party.
And of course, my favorite, some old silver serving pieces.

What's that saying...you have to kiss a lot of frogs to get to a prince? Well, I found my prince of estate sales this weekend. And believe me, I had to go through a ton of frogs to get there!

Gingerbread

It's the perfect time of the year to make gingerbread.
I used a recipe from Ina Garten - her Old-Fashioned Gingerbread. You can find the recipe here.
Mixed up all the ingredients.
The special ingredient in this recipe is the crystallized ginger. It adds such a wonderful flavor.
Going in to the oven.
Coming out of the oven.
Ready to eat!

White Wednesday

I love milk glass. It fits in well with any decoration scheme, it's perfect for the holidays. This is a compote from my shop, filled with glass ornaments.
A few more pieces from my shop, these vases would look great with a holly branch in each one clustered together for a holiday table.
And these two have worn themselves out after holiday decorating, making themselves comfortable on a white blanket.
