Silver Spoons

This antique Victorian spooner/spoon holder was a gift to my family several years ago.
It contained many silver spoons that had been painstakingly collected.
The spooner is gorgeous. It is very ornate. It is made by Webster Mfg Co, and dates between 1866-1874.
All of the spoons have meaning - cities that have significance, places we have lived, birthday months, and so on.
These are all Massachusetts spoons - Salem and Boston. They are all incredibly detailed (click on the image to get a better view). The Salem spoons have witches on the handles, and the 2 on the left have a cat at the base of the spoon, and snake wrapped around the handle.
Pittsburgh, PA and Minnesota spoons.
Philadelphia and another Minnesota spoon.
Closeups of Minnesota, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
May and October spoons.

Another October spoon.
All of these spoon are old, most were made in the 1800's.

I think this is one of the best gifts ever given, and I think it is part of the reason I have started my own collection of silver. I have added some spoons to this collection, and expanded out to all flatware and serving pieces.

  9. Souvenir spoons are quite interesting. It is amazing how much detail were put into them. And they tell a story all their own. I have a couple that were handed down to me-none that I collected. Stop by Applejack Lane if you have the chance to see my baby spoon and fork collection.

  17. Such a stunning spooner! Lucky you. The spoons are pretty too. My Aunt Mary used to collect spoons and had a special wall hanger for all of them.
I've been looking for one not as fancy, no luck yet.
