Silver Sunday

Silver Sunday again! These are all recent estate sales finds.
First up is the tray.
It was hard to get a good shot of the details (had to shoot it with a flash), but it has an etched peacock design!

I love little silver cups, especially when monogrammed.
This one has the name Pamela engraved on it, with the date, 6/18/42.

A handful of great silver spoons. Lots of art deco details.

A set of 6 with an N monogram.

A silver dome butter dish.
The dome slides open, then underneath.

More Weekend Finds

I had a successful weekend of thrifting. Above are a set of 1973 sewing books - they have the coolest covers. They are all in excellent condition, and seem to be really informative too!
These are a set of small peacock dishes with gold detailing. Very pretty, and marked on the bottom 6431. I am having a hard time deciphering that. I can't find the maker or the pattern. I'll keep looking...
My favorite - monogrammed flatware. These are knives - I think one is a WN and one is WD, but I'm not sure.
And a couple of little brass birds.

Table and Peacock Transformation

I found this cute little table at a garage sale for $5:
It had been painted gold, and was very dusty and dirty, but it had really beautiful details.
I also found these peacocks. They were $0.15 each. Also very dirty and chipped in some places.
I used a can of flat white spray paint to transform them.
I think the white really brings the pretty details out.
As well as hiding flaws.
I love white spray paint.

Thrifty Thursday, another Peacock

I stopped by a thrift store yesterday and found this peacock! It was only $2, and it meant to hang on the wall. I think I may paint it white.
I also picked up a pile of zippers and bias tape for upcoming projects I've been meaning to get to. They were 3 for $1.
And my favorite, another pile of silver flatware. Most of them are monogrammed, and a few are really pretty serving pieces. They are all very tarnished, and some have silverplate loss, but I don't mind.

A few more finds...

Here are a few more finds left over from my weekend hunts...
A cute 1960's ceramic owl, some pilgram/thanksgiving candles, a few small framed floral pictures (also the 60's?), a brass vase, a couple of brass bells.
A couple of peacock figures, they are not old, but I think they will look cute painted white - and maybe place amongst a bookshelf.

And a charming Vienna Empire cookbook from the 60's.

Another Victim of the Economy

Smith & Hawken is shutting down. They are closing all of their stores - they started their going out of business sales today, and their online ordering is already closed. So sad. I had been keeping my eye on this garden peacock
The price was high, I was hoping to get in on clearance at the end of the summer. But I really loved it so I stopped by today - they only had 2 left. It was 20% off, so I got it! Now it lives here:
Most of their merchandise is 20-50% off already. There are some very good deals. If you have a store near you, stop by...

Peacock Crumber

I picked up this silent butler (also known as a crumber, or crumb sweeper) at an estate sale recently. They were used to sweep the crumbs and ashes from the table, particularly at formal dinner parties.
The ornate detailing caught my eye, however it was very dark at the sale, and this crumber was very tarnished and dirty.
I brought it home, cleaned it up, and upon closer inspection, I realized that the design was actually peacocks within the art nouveau style!
This is the handle of the brush.
And this is the main area of the pan.
